Pedestrian hit by car hurt in University City

A man was severely hurt when he was struck by a car in University City Tuesday night, San Diego police said.
He was struck about 9:15 p.m. in the ideal lane of eastbound La Jolla Village Drive nearby Lebon Drive, regardless of the driver’s effort to avoid hitting him, authorities Officer John Buttle said.

Police hadn’t determined if he crossed the street or standing in the road.
The pedestrian, who was wearing dark clothing, suffered severe injuries and was taken to a hospital, Buttle said. He was expected to survive.

The driver of the Toyota Camry was not suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, authorities said.
